Check out this painting by my friend Laura B. It's pretty freakin' good right? Now here's the thing: Laura is left handed but she painted this picture with her RIGHT HAND(!!!1!). You see, her chosen medium is Microsoft Paint and she can only use her mouse with her right hand. It's really inspiring to see someone overcome such a debilitating handicap to produce such a masterpiece. She basically like that guy in that movie My Left Foot only she's a real person!!

Anyway, this is a Microsoft painting of a woman who works with Laura. While I could tell you about the meaning behind every detail in the painting, I've decided it is better to simply let the painting speak for itself. If you ever run into Laura at a party perhaps she will explain it to you. I will leave you with one word to keep in mind as you ponder the painting. That word is Snowpants.

That sounds like a super boring blog. I never actually got to see that one either but I remember thinking to myself, "Man, even my blog is better than that one." I wonder though if my blog is better than Welcome to Action. That one sounds like it could be really good.

I have formed a "book club"

I have formed an IM book club. So far the only members are my friend Ofer and myself. If you are interested in joining our book club all you have to do is read the chosen book and then IM with us about it. Those are the only rules. You don't even have to leave the house!

This month's book was:

Mantrapping by Ragnar Benson.

I was fascinated by the book from the moment I first saw the cover. I mean, who names their kid Ragnar? It sounds like a character from Battlefield Earth or a viking or something. Awesome!

Also, the book is about how to trap people. Who knew this stuff existed? Not me. It's mind boggling. Sort of like that band I posted for you a while back, The Berserker. I'll bet If those guys had a book club they would probably read Mantrapping. They would also probably read with gloves on like they do when they play the guitar.(I'll tell you a secret: just thinking of trying to turn a page with gloves on makes me feel really uncomfortable. blek.)

Anyway, Mantrapping is a pretty quick read especially if you skip over the crappy writing and just look at the 20 or so diagrams of traps. I read the introduction and all it really says is that you're about to read a book about trapping people and how trapping people is way harder than trapping rabbits because people are smarter than rabbits. It's pretty straightforward stuff. The rest of the book is a bunch of wicked boring descriptions of traps which, with one look at the diagram you're like, "oh, i get it. sweet." *turn page* The diagrams are way better then the words. Check this one out:

They're all like that. Simple and to the point with just enough detail so that you could totally build one yourself. Except for the Cuban Water Trap. I still have no idea what's going on there.

The only problem that I have with a lot of these "traps" is that they're not really traps. They're more like killing machines activated by tripwires.

If I got hit by this thing and somebody asked me what happened to me I wouldn't say "Oh I got trapped" I'd be like, "I got slapped in the face with a board of nails and I am dead now because of it." Regardless of it's official trap status the Jivaro Catapult is totally my fav.

Ofer's favorite "trap" was the Armored Personnel Carrier Trap:

my pointless life 2

hey. did you ever play second life? i did. but only once. now i will tell you the story of that time i played second life.

for those of you that don't know, second life is a MMORPG which stands for lots-of-people-play-it-online-and-you-get-to-interact-with-real-people-in-a-virtual-world. it's kind of like world of warcraft but without a point or a goal. i first heard about it in the new york times (which by the way is a great thing to read if you want to learn about brand new stuff on the internets. another great source is my mom). the article writer interviewed a bunch of second life users and they all talked about how freeing it was to be on second life. they could look and act anyway they wanted without being judged by others. i thought to myself, you know, that sounds pretty good. i'd like to see what it's like to get away from the pressures of society. all the people in the article made it sound sort of like an online utopia. count me in.

so i signed up and created a character (or avatar if you are a geek). at first i wanted to make a really cool looking guy with a mohawk and one of those mustaches that connects to your sideburns. i quickly got frustrated with the controls and i was eager to find a gun so i decide to modify my avatar later. things went downhill from there. fast.

not 5 minutes later i'm wandering around in the forest, lost and confused. then these three guys come up to me and thy're like "do you want a gun?" i was like "do i?!?!!? fuck yeah i want a gun!" so this thing comes up on my screen that says something like futtbucker69 has offered you the item "gun". accept? hell yes.

*click*

and then...

i'm humping a water buffalo.

my avatar is humping a water buffalo and there is nothing i can do about it. these three guys are all laughing their asses off at me. i start to run away but they just followed shouting profanities at me and ridiculing me. i finally come to some sort of town or something and still i can't stop my avatar from humping the water buffalo. i'm trying everything, pressing all these buttons but i have no idea what i'm doing. then out of nowhere all these other people in the town come out of their houses and start laughing at me and making fun of me. at some point i pressed something that made the water buffalo come out of my head. that was a slight improvement but my avatar was still making these humping motions and everyone was still laughing at me. then mike and matt who i work with come in my room and they start laughing at me. what had started out as anonymous online embarrassment had crossed over into genuine real world humiliation. i felt like i was in high school again.

anyway. i don't want to talk about it anymore. the picture above is my poor avatar in his underwear with a water buffalo coming out of his head. ugh.

So here's my sister's movie. It's been over 25 years and I'm ready to admit it: It's better than The Horse. Bear in mind, she was 3 years older than me (still is) but, yeah, her movie is waaaaay better than mine. Her direction, script, editing, production design all have me beat by a mile. I will point out, however, that while The Dog I Found has only flowers on the title card, The Horse has flowers and an ice cream cone. HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, CARA?!?!?!

I found this movie that I made when I was about 5 years old. We used cutting edge 1982 preschool technology. I have a distinct memory of the whole process. While I was drawing the pictures remember being completely convinced that I was making the greatest movie of all time. It was gonna be better than Star Wars and Clash of the Titans put together and way better than my sister's movie, The Dog I Found. I also remember being profoundly disappointed in the end result.

oh and i still can't fucking draw worth a damn.

dudes. i wrote this song today and then i figured out how to put it on my blog (it's pretty easy unless you're a total n00b). the problem is the only mp3 player that i could find is seriously ugly and totally gaytarded looking. it'll have to do though. anyway...maureen saw a dying raccoon dragging itself out of the street after getting hit by a car. if you can think of anything sadder than that then don't tell me because i don't want to know.

UPDATE: fuck. i guess i am a total n00b. the player doesn't work now and if you click on the song title it goes to some singer/songwriter's website. i think she hacked my blog. um...madeline, if you're out there, it is seriously uncool to hack a blog just to promote your shitty songs. but if you're gonna hack a blog to promote your shitty songs then maybe you should hack a blog that people actually read. unless you were specifically trying to get me to listen to your songs. if that's the case then it was a pretty good idea. doesn't mean i'm gonna listen to your songs though. i'm still a little pissed about the whole hacking thing. oh, and what's up with your website? seriously. it's 2008. what's with the crayons? what are you, julianna hatfield? also, i know you considered making the horse a unicorn. what stopped you? there's a bear painting a train in the woods. if you're gonna go that crazy, why not make the horse a unicorn? i mean just go all out. it's not like anyone's gonna be like, "oh wait, dude is that a unicorn? fuck this. this picture is obviously fake."

so...yeah...now i'm back. i have a giant stack of pictures that i have to scan which is a total pain in the ass. it's gonna take me forever. until then you can enjoy my zombie painting while hitting refresh on your web browser. IMHO (that means "in my humble opinion" in internet language, n00b.) it is the best thing that i ever made. my mom doesn't really like it but what are you gonna do? if i drew a picture that my mom liked i can pretty much guarantee it would suck. anyway...this was the first time i ever really tried to paint. it was pretty fun and i learned a lot. for instance, i learned that painting takes a long fucking time. i can crank out a pen and paper drawing in like 5 minutes but this zombie painting took me about 20 hours. plus i didn't have an easel so i painted it on the floor which made my back hurt like crazy and i got paint all over my carpet. i have since bought an easle and i've been saving my old newspapers to put underneath it. ok. that's it for now. i'm gonna go watch the space shuttle land.

i drew this picture after i found out that amy heckerling directed "european vacation". amy heckerling, for those of you who don't know, directed "fast times at ridgemont high" which might be the best movie ever. i was shocked to find out that she also directed some really crappy movies. these crappy movies include "look who's talking" (which she also wrote), "look who's talking too" (which she also wrote too), and "a night at the roxbury". after learning these facts i rewatched "fast times" this past sunday on tbs and i realized that it's a very poorly made movie. it just happens to be really funny. actually it's not even that funny. i don't know why i like it. maybe i don't.

this one is called a "a monster and a stick". i drew it for two reasons:
1) monsters are easy to draw. you don't have to draw anything correctly (like hands or feet) because nobody really knows what a monster looks like. if somebody says to me "that monster's hand is all wrong" then i respond by saying "oh yeah? how would you know? i think that monster's hand is fucking dead-on. stop judging me. in fact, stop looking at my blog, you're banned for life. you can still buy a t-shirt or a mug though."
2) sticks are easy to draw. it's just a few lines. who couldn't draw a stick?

this guy has been pretty excited ever since his body turned into a wheel. it must be nice rolling around like that. i even got a little jealous of the guy after i drew it so i added a bolt of lightening in the background to suggest that things aren't all well and good in his world. he's probably got some issues from his past that he's going to need to deal with at some point. as mike would say, "he's got a ton of issues and you just ordered a subscription."

some people like art. some people like art so much that they buy it. can you believe that? this is a picture of a piece of art that someone bought and hung on their wall. when you draw a picture of a piece of art then the resulting picture becomes twice as artful. art can come in many forms. it could be a painting that you hang on your wall next to your other paintings. that's probably the most common. other forms of art include coffee mugs, t-shirts, and gender-specific t-shirts.

this one is called "you can't improve anything so stop trying and die." obviously. what else did you think it was going to be called? snakelady? couple things to point out. first, take a look at the guy's hands. the one in his pocket looks like i actually meant to draw it that way. it looks totally adequate. like i set out to draw a hand in a pocket and totally got that done all by myself. no teamwork needed. the other hand looks like i set out to draw a hand with a pointing finger then changed my mind and decided to draw a gun then realized i couldn't draw either one and tried to erase it by licking my finger and rubbing it on the hand/gun. well, that's exactly how it happened.

here is another drawing posted on my blog. i believe it is called "blood hands". hands are very difficult to draw. i can't ever get the fingers right and more often than not i draw the right hand on the left arm and the left hand on the right arm. bloody stumps and hands in pockets are much easier to draw. i guess you could say this is a "theme" that i explore in my artwork; bloody stumps and hands in pockets. i guess you could also say that i'm an asshole.

as promised i have posted not one but two pictures depicting machines. i don't know what the top machine does or if it can help someone do less work. in retrospect this probably wasn't the best picture of a machine which enables you to do less work that i could have picked. moving on to the bottom picture, if your job is to throw tennis balls at sea horses i would highly recommend that you get yourself a machine like this. it would save you a lot of work.

this is an example of teamwork. sort of. it's the only picture i have that comes anywhere close to being a depiction of teamwork. teamwork, as i said before, is something that i'm totally into. it reduces the amount of work that needs to be done to complete a task. i'm all for that. another thing that can reduce work (if you're not into being part of a team) are machines. i probably have pictures of machines. i'll find one and post it on my blog.
